Deploying handhelds
Deployment process
To deploy handhelds successfully, you must complete the following actions:
Selecting a deployment method
You can deploy handhelds using the administration computer, wirelessly, or using the Desktop Manager.
If you deploy a handheld using the administration computer, the handheld must be connected to the
administration computer.
If you deploy a handheld wirelessly or using the Desktop Manager, the handheld does not have to be in
your possession during the deployment process.

Action Procedure
Install Handheld Software on the handheld if the desired
version is not installed on the handheld.

Provision or activate the handheld by performing one of the
following actions:
• assign the handheld to a user
• install service books on the handheld

Synchronize PIM data on the handheld. ! See "Selecting a deployment method" on page 15 for more
